Movie of the Week 27
Monty Python and the Holy Grail 1975 comedy adventure
Available for streaming on Prime Video
One of the top comedy flicks of all time. This low budget film is the masterpiece of the Monty Python comedy troupe. Make no mistake, the comedy is not sophisticated; it is beyond silly, with clowning off the lunatic scale, but then again, that is the real beauty of the film. Here are my Top Ten reasons to watch Holy Grail: the scientific witch trial, holy hand grenade, coconuts, air mail, Trojan rabbit, none shall pass bridge, Robin’s minstrels, the wedding speech, white male actors that are not LGBTQRSTUV, and the director is not “woke” or even gives two fucks about your feelings.
Movie of the Week 26
Hostiles 2017 drama adventure western
Is "Hostiles" the new standard for how to make a modern-age Western? Gone are the prolific cowboys vs. Indians westerns of the 60s that I grew up watching every Saturday. Nowadays, the popularity of the Western genre has faded, but not entirely gone. Only a handful make it to the big screen each year. The modern westerns must include more oblique, socially-sensitive issues revolving around Native/White relationships, and must show sympathy for the Native characters. That said; this film does include violence. I think the body count was about 33 killed. Meh, most of us have seen worse on the silver screen. The movie is beautifully shot and well-acted. One thing is for sure about this film: It created an atmosphere from the American past that captured my attention as only the best westerns can do.
