Moscow 1953 – Stalin is found unconscious. The cry goes out to get a doctor then someone says, “We killed all the good doctors.” This film is a political satire with plenty of gallows humor and good acting by an outstanding ensemble cast. The only film, I know of, ever to explore the utter depravity and absurd paranoia of Stalin’s brutal regime in the now defunct Soviet Union.
Update: In 2019 the movie was banned in Russia. The Russian movie censors declared the film was insulting to Russian history and maliciously portrayed Marshall Zhukov, a Russian hero of WW2, as a buffoon. The state censorship will make this movie all the more popular with the Russian people. Forbidden fruit is always treasured.
