This is an animation film for adults making it a one-of-a-kind movie in a genre dominated by Disney flicks for children. The film tells the story, in flashback, of Vincent Van Gogh’s last months before his death in July 1890 (age 37) in Arles, France. The movie follows a mystery plot and retains an air of suspicion regarding the cause of Van Gogh’s death. Was it really suicide or was he murdered? The main character, Armand Roulin, becomes an amateur detective as he follows the clues leading to the artist’s death. See for yourself how the case turns out. The remarkable aspect of the film is the animation work done in the style of Van Gogh’s unique paintings with several images of his famous masterpieces smoothly integrated into the visuals. So the more you enjoy Van Gogh’s art, the more you will enjoy this movie. But you do not have to be an art expert to appreciate the labor of love that went into this production. If nothing else, the film may inspire you to go see a few of Vincent’s famous works hanging in the museums lucky enough to have them.
